Gloria Callaway Obituary

Gloria Dean Callaway Gloria Dean Callaway, 79, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Marshall, MO, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She had been battling Alzheimer's disease. Gloria was born April 13, 1934, in Kansas City, KS. She was a 1952 graduate of Bishop Ward High School. In 1955, on a blind date, she met the love of her life. That New Year's Eve (Leap year) she popped the question. David E. Callaway and Gloria were married March 23, 1956. In 1960, David and Gloria moved to Lexington, MO, where she loved the role of raising her five children. The family of seven moved to Marshall, MO in 1972. During the time in Marshall, Gloria earned her nursing degree and spent many wonderful years in the nursery of Fitzgibbon Memorial Hospital. In 2007, Gloria and David moved to Topeka, KS to be near family. In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by a sister, Becky Johnson Willis; and a daughter, Davida Welch. Gloria is survived by her husband David; three sons, David Callaway, Jr. and wife Lacy of Lee's Summit, MO, Michael Callaway of Topeka, KS and Dennis Callaway and wife Britta of Wheaton, IL; one daughter, Deana McCoy and husband Mike of Scranton, KS. She was very proud of her eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Marshall, with Rev. Vernon Maxted officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday in Machpelah Cemetery in Lexington, MO. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church, Marshall, MO.
