Marjorie McDowell Obituary

Marjorie Ruth McDowell passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014. Funeral: 1 p.m. Monday at Legacy Church of Christ in North Richland Hills. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst. Pallbearers are Kyle Lewis, Nathan McDowell, Kevin Lewis, Derek Presley, Larren Smoot and Jason Everitt. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Christ's Haven Children's Home or to Lion Hospice, who attended to her in her last days. Marjorie was born in Carbon to Lee A. and Myrtle Duke on Nov. 25, 1930. She lived on a farm until she was 5 and then moved to Coleman. While in high school, Marjorie played drums, french horn and trumpet. Upon graduation, she attended Draughn's Business College in Abilene. Afterwards, she worked for Production Credit Association in Coleman. She married Eldon McDowell on Sept. 2, 1950, and they had three children. The family moved to Hurst in 1959, and became charter members of Pipeline Road Church of Christ which is now Legacy Church of Christ. Marjorie was active in church activities, including teaching pre-schoolers and organizing the teacher supply room for many years. She was a homemaker and always put her family first. The family took annual vacations, and over the years visited 48 states, Canada and Mexico. Their last vacation was to Colorado and South Dakota to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bill McDowell; and grandson, Brandon Presley. Survivors: Her husband, Eldon McDowell; daughters, Mary Lewis and husband, Max, of Waco, Sally Kempff and husband, Pieter, of Hurst; daughter-in-law, Jan McDowell of North Richland Hills; sister-in-law, Betty James and husband, Edward; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

I am sorry to learn of Marjorie's death. I'm sure she is in a far better place and without pain. I extend my sympathy to the family. May God bless each one - especially Eldon, Nathan and Melissa.

I am sorry to hear of Marjorie's death,. but I know she is in a far better place and without pain. I always enjoyed visiting with her when I was able. My thoughts and prayers are with Eldon and family, Nathan and Melissa. God bless each one.
