I first met Mrs. Burns when I was still a young man in college. What I remember most was that she was very welcoming and gracious. There were a lot of kids in her house that day and it seemed as if I was one of them.
I went back to Louisville on business about 8 years later, and she was still as gracious then as she was on my first trip. I got a chance to meet the family and hang out with Juan at the skating rink both times I visited. I also remember the peaches on the tree in their back yard. They were so good! I had a great time during each visit, and Mrs. Burns played a part by just being easy to talk to. Talking to her was like talking to my own mom. It seemed that when we were at the skating rink she was was at the skating rink. When I was with Juan at her house she was there also. I guess moms seem to have the ability to be everywhere they are needed all at once.
Like I've already said it was just like being with my mom. Being welcoming and gracious are character traits that sometimes seem to be in short supply. When you see and feel those traits you know you are someplace special. I was then and I am still now grateful for the Louisville experience I had. Mrs. Burns was a fine ambassador for the city of Louisville and an excellent example of what a mother's spirit feels like when you need it most, like when you are a young man a long way from home. My condolences go out to the Burns family. My prayers are with all of you and please continue to stay strong. Juan, you are still a guy that I admire, and if you need a shoulder to lean on we are Bison strong here.

Am praying for the family of Barbara Burns who was always such a sweet and kind lady. I have fond memories of singing in the choir with her and Charita. I know that Mama Burns is leaving behind a great legacy of love and faith that will go on forever. That picture of her is a reminder of the Beautiful smile that she always wore.
God Bless The Family

God bless this wonderful lady. She was always such a nice person and I will never forget how nice she was to my daughter Maria when she was a little girl. Maria would never go to anyone or let them hold her but she let Barbara hold her and felt comfortable with her. Maria felt her warmth and good heart as I'm sure others did.
God Bless you and may you have the peace you have always deserved.
