David ROSENZWEIG

ROSENZWEIG, David January 1, 1939 - January 12, 2018 After a long illness, on Friday, January 12, 2018, at the Jewish General Hospital. Predeceased by his beloved wife of forty-three years, Beverly Burn in 2009. Devoted father and father-in-law of Steve Rosenzweig and Jenny Puterman of Vancouver, and Stacy Rosenzweig of Toronto. Proud grandfather of Joshua and Ari Rosenzweig of Vancouver. Dear brother of Yegal Rosen of Toronto, and the late Max. He will be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. David was born in Lodz, Poland, and, shortly after the outbreak of World War II, escaped with his parents and older brother Max first to Trieste, Italy, and then to Palestine. After serving in the Israeli army, he moved to Montréal in 1959, where he met Beverly. They were married in 1966. He worked for Bernina - the Switzerland-based manufacturer and distributer of sewing machines - until his retirement. David spoke several languages, including English, French, Polish, Yiddish, Hebrew and Italian, which enabled him to make friends wherever he went. After his wife's death, he moved to the Résidence Steger in his long-time neighbourhood of Saint-Laurent. He was a member of Congregation Beth Ora and a supporter of many Jewish organizations in Canada and Israel. In his later years, his two grandsons were the light of his life. Heartfelt gratitude to David's medical team, the staff of the Jewish General Hospital, and Résidence Steger, as well as to the caregivers who helped David during the past several months. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Tuesday, January 16 at 12:00 noon. Burial at the Montreal Workers' Circle Association Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O.
