SIOUX FALLS, SD - Eugene "Gene" Kent, aged 77, from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2024, at Sanford Hospice Foundation Cottage.
Eugene Patrick Kent was born on February 17, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa, to John and Genevieve (Muff) Kent. He grew up in Jefferson, SD, and graduated from Heelan Catholic High School in 1964.
After completing high school, he attended SDSU in Brookings, SD. On February 15, 1969, Gene married Marijo, and they had six children together: Brad, Brian, Kevin, Angela, Jason, and Jennifer. Gene and Marijo later got divorced. In 1973, Gene and his family moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he started his insurance agency.
Gene worked in insurance for over 50 years and never retired. Gene was devoted to his work and church, and he also loved good food.
He is survived by his children: Brad Kent of Louisville, KY, Brian Kent of Sioux Falls, Kevin (Beth) Kent of Sioux Falls, Angela Kent of Spearfish, SD, Jason Kent of Wellton, AZ, and Jennifer Kent of Orlando, FL.
He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Ian, Ava, and Alora Kent; three brothers, Francis (Sabina) Kent of Castle Rock, CO, Edward Kent of Mason City, IA, Allen Kent of Sugar Grove, IL, and four sisters, Carol (Mark) Murphy of Champagne, IL, Norma (Kim) Stork) of Anchorage, AK, Joan (Kathy) Kent of Sioux City, IA, and Terri (Tom) Welk of Sioux Falls, SD. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, John and Genevieve Kent, and his sister, Janette Watson.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Christ the King Parish, 1501 W. 26th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57105.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, with a wake service followed by the rosary beginning at 6:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home located at 507 S. Main Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57104.
The burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa.
