Shala R. (Jungman) Richardson

March 17, 1970 - March 13, 2025

Shala Rae Jungman Richardson, age 54, was born March 17, 1970, in Champerico, Guatemala, a coastal village on the Pacific Ocean. Her mother, Julia Fuentes, was very ill and couldn't take care of her. So, Dean and Sue Jungman adopted her. Shala lost her brave battle with pulmonary fibrosis, caused by Covid on March 13, 2025. She fought long and hard for four years and died at the Josie Harper Hospice in Omaha, Nebraska. Shala began her professional career as a deaf interpreter in Boone, Iowa after graduating from Iowa Western Community College. She then became a para educator with the Council Bluffs Community School district at Washington School. During that time, she also began college work at William Penn University and earned her BA in elementary education. After one year of teaching at Roosevelt School, she found her passion in teaching and loving the children at Heartland Christian School for 10 wonderful years. She was loved by her students. Her other great passion was being a grandma to Mia. That was the best. Shala was preceded in death by her husband, Jamie Richardson, and her brother, Nate Jungman. Shala is survived by her daughter, Amanda Jungman of Council Bluffs and her granddaughter, Mia of Council Bluffs, her parents Susan Jungman of Council Bluffs, Lester Dean Jungman (Phebe) of Omaha, her stepson Addam Schimmer (Sara), her brother Chad Jungman of Bellevue and nephew, Kellen Jungman of LaVista, NE. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Randy (Mary) Richardson of Denison, IA, and sister­ in-law, Shelly (Johnny) Rose of Denison, IA. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was blessed with many friends.

Visitation is at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel on Thursday, March 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. Celebration of Life service is at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the Summit cemetery at Yorktown following the service.
