Betty Giorgi Obituary

Betty passed away peacefully at the age of 85 in Lodi on the evening of September 27, 2010. Betty grew up in Jonesboro, LA and was one of nine children. She moved to California in the early 1940's and resided in Thornton for a brief time then moved to Acampo where she met and married the love of her life, Gino Giorgi. Together they raised six children on their ranch in Acampo. During their time together on the ranch they farmed peaches, grapes and walnuts. This was the happiest time in her life.
Through the years Betty worked for the Cosmopolitan, Felten's Topaz and the Golden Acorn restaurants as a cook. After retiring from farming Betty moved to Lodi where she worked for the LUSD as a noon duty aide at several area elementary schools including Vinewood Elementary where she was lovingly known as "Miss Betty" or "Grandma Betty" to all the children, parents and her co-workers. She loved being with the children and was a great source of comfort to many kids that just needed a hug or a pat on the back.
Though she grew up in the South her love of Italian cooking was enjoyed by all at her family dinners served under the Mulberry tree at the ranch where friends and family would gather to feast on her famous pasta and her wonderful apple pies.
She cheerfully welcomed everyone to sit and eat.
Betty leaves behind her sons Bill Ferreira and wife Sharon of Acampo, David Giorgi of Lodi and Tom Giorgi also of Lodi; Daughter Stephanie Schneider and husband Eric of Lodi; Grandchildren Tony Ferreira and wife Julie of Lodi, Melanie Pinochi and husband Mike of Pioneer, CA, Jason Browning, Gino L. Giorgi and Emily Schneider of Lodi; Great-grandchildren, Luca Ferreira and Tessa Ferreira of Lodi, Noah Pinochi, Owen Pinochi and Isabella Pinochi of Pioneer, CA.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Maude Kirtley; husband Gino Giorgi; daughters Joyce Ferreira and Susan Giorgi; great-grandson Rocco Ferreira.
Memorial contributions may be made in Betty's honor to the Boys & Girls Club of Lodi @ P.O. Box 244, Lodi, CA 95241.
Services will be private. Arrangements have been compassionately handled by Leonard Messer with Cherokee Memorial Park & Funeral Home.

Your mom worked at Vinewood School many years and was so loved by the teachers and students. We all knew her as grandma Betty or Miss Betty and she could rule with an iron hand if she needed to. She would also get extra cookies for those kids that touched her heart. I am so sorry for your loss but I will remember her with fondness always. Susan Hummel (retired kindergarten teacher)

I always remember Miss Betty being so kind to my kids. She was so comforting as my kids started kindergarten, at Vinewood, as I was a nervous mama!! She would always say "I will keep my eyes on your lil ones, don't you worry!!" God definitely got one of his Angels back!!

Stephanie - I'll always remember your Mom coming to pick you up. We'd run around while our Mom's visited and drank wine in the kitchen. It was bonus time for us. Betty was one of the few who could hold her own around my Dad and his sense of humor. May warm memories bring you and your family comfort at this time. ~ Teresa
