Antonio Galvan Obituary

Antonio J. Galvan passed away peacefully on October 1st, 2010, just eighteen days prior to what would have been his ninety-first birthday. Born on October 19th, 1919, in Burley, Idaho, Antonio moved and resided in Turlock where he attended Turlock High School. He later attended and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley.
Antonio entered the United States Army in 1943, thus beginning an illustrious career that took him through various assignments around the world in both war and peacetime, including combat service during World War II as well as the Korean Conflict. As one of the youngest Commissioned Officers under General George S. Patton's Third Army, he fought during the Normandy Invasion and The Battle of The Bulge. His name is inscribed in the Wall of Liberty in Normandy as one of the thousands of American Soldiers honored for their heroic efforts. He retired honorably with the rank of Major and continued with a second successful career as a Deputy Probation Officer with the San Joaquin County Probation Department between 1962 and 1983.
On March 21st, 1955, Antonio married Mary E. Zimmerman, an Army Nurse also decorated for her actions during World War II and the Landing at Normandy Beach. They resided in Lodi beginning in 1961, and remained active in various Community and Veteran's Organizations.
Antonio is survived by his wife Mary and his two sons; Gary Galvan (& Lori) of Elk Grove and Robert Galvan (& Lynn) of Pacific Grove.
Memorial Services will be held at Saint Anne's Catholic Church on the morning of Thursday, October 7th at 10:00 a.m. Committal is private. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the City of Lodi Veteran's Plaza.

It has been my wonderful pleasure to know you all of these years that you have been in Lodi, first as your babysitter for Robert and Gary and for the past 20 years as your neighbor. You taught me to drink martinis, and educated me on military life. Your warm smile and happy personality will be missed. Our love to Mary and boys.
