James Maclise Obituary

James R. Maclise, 74, of Lodi, was called to rest on Sept. 17. He was born Dec. 14, 1935 in Newark, N.J. His parents were Deming Gerow and Vivian Ruth Maclise. Mr. Maclise was an English and writing teacher at Lodi High School from 1972-1996. He earned his bachelor's degree at UC Davis in 1957. He earned a Master's degree at the University of San Francisco in 1971 where he taught evening classes and met Jim Lynch who encouraged him to apply for a job with LUSD. In 1972 Jim started his career at Lodi High.
Jim was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church and served in the U.S. Army. He was a contributing writer for Old Time Radio Digest (more than 26 articles). His column was called "Private Eyes for Public Ears". He loved the detective genre. He loved music particularly jazz and classical. He remained an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife Lura Maclise, sons James Deming and Daniel Ross, a brother Deming Gerow Maclise III (wife Nancy) and three grandchildren, Britnee, Jaymee, and Trevor. A Memorial Mass will be held Oct. 13th at 1pm. at St. Anne's Catholic Church with Father Brandon Ware officiating.
Commital is private and will be held at a later date. Lodi All Faiths Cremation is assisting the family with arrangements.
