Ida Viola Schmierer

1914 - 2010

Ida Viola Schmierer, a long-time resident of Lodi, passed away on November 11, 2010, in Lodi at the age of 96. Mrs. Schmierer was born in Litton, North Dakota on May 14, 1914, to Fredrick and Magdalena (Boschee) Vossler. Her family moved to this area when she was a young child, and she attended local schools. She married Roland Schmierer, and they raised their family in Lodi. She also helped with Schmierer Vineyards for many years until retirement. She was a long-time member of Salem United Methodist Church where she was very active in many church events. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, embroidering, and traveling; but most importantly, she loved her family and was very supportive. She attended all sports events and anything that involved her children and grandchildren. She was very loved, and she will be missed. Mrs. Schmierer is survived by her son, Ken (Rena) Schmierer of Woodbridge; daughter, Donna Jean (Roy) Schmidt of Lodi; four grandchildren, Brian Schmidt, Jeff (Terese) Schmidt, Matthew (LaRae) Schmierer, and Daniel (Alicia) Schmierer; five great-grandchildren, Christine, Jacqueline, Samantha, Bryana, and Auston; sister, Melinda Mc Clary of Stockton; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Schmierer, July 1, 2006; five brothers, Adam, Otto, Alvin, Albert, and Ruben Vossler; two sisters, Martha Meier and Leona Tryon. Friends are invited to visit Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. Services will be held on Thursday, November 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park in the Chapel of Flowers. Committal will immediately follow at the cemetery.
