Genevieve Stirnaman Obituary

Genevieve Pearl Stirnaman, a long-time resident of both Stockton and El Dorado, passed away on November 14, 2010, in Lodi, CA at the age of 97. Mrs. Stirnaman was born in Spokane, WA on August 12, 1913, to George Thomas and Pearl Vivian (Manley) Heilig and was raised in Tabor, Iowa. In 1936, the family moved to the Bay Area and then moved in 1946 to Stockton. She and her husband, Vern Yates, were very active at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stockton, particularly the expansion of the current school. In 1969, she married Carroll Stirnaman and in 1972, they moved to El Dorado where she worked as a Senior Legislator with El Dorado County for twenty years. Mrs. Stirnaman was very passionate about the needs of the Senior community. She was also very active at El Dorado Community Church. She moved to Salinas in 2005, and then to Lodi in 2009. She was a vital, vibrant lady, who was very loved and respected and will be missed by her family and friends. Mrs. Stirnaman is survived by her daughter , Alice Marie Yates Fouts of Salinas; seven grandchildren, Rebecca DeMartini, Joseph Bertaina, Mary Yates, Michelle Torda, Timothy Yates, Melissa Yates Saenz, and Jeannie Yates Geralis; eight great-grandchildren, Johnathan Bertaina (the son of Trina Marie Bertaina), Angela, Cassie, Giovanni, Gina and Toa Bertaina, Kristin and Michael DeMartini; one great-great-grandson, Zachary DeMartini-Wagner; two sisters, Nella Burch of Squim, WA, and Audrey Hein of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vern Yates, and her second husband, Carroll Stirnaman; son, Thomas Creel Yates; granddaughter, Trina Marie Bertaina; brother, William Heilig; and sister, Maxine Boardman. Friends are invited to visit Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Lodi Funeral Home. Services will be held on Friday, November 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 444 N. American Street in Stockton with committal to follow at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. A virtual register book may be signed at www.lodifuneralhome.com where memories can be shared. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
