John Thomas Correia, 80 of Tracy passed away peacefully at home due to natural causes. Born John Thomas Correia on February 2, 1930 in Pria Do Almoxarife, Chao Frio, Faial, Azores. He lived in Tracy for the past 48 years. John came to the United States in 1959, because of the islands earth quakes and for a better life for his family he loved so much. His first job was a dairy man, in Tulare, Visalia, and Hanford area, he then moved his family to Banta /Tracy, worked for Cardoza Carpentry, the Altamont Pass, Tracy and Manteca Public Schools, Tracy Bowl, Portuguese Hall, and his last job Lawrence Livermore Lab for 18 years. John Retired in 1992. His job was never done, as he devoted his time for his wife of 54 years (especially hanging Christmas lights which was "best outdoor lights" in the Tracy Press). He was a member of the Portuguese Societies, which included U.P.E.C, I.P.F.E.S and member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.
He was gentle and fun to be around, his one and only passion and love was his wife, who without her there was no reason to live, he could not get there fast enough to be with her (she died May 1, 2010) he loved her food and his glass of wine. His hobbies were wood working, camping, fishing, traveling, dancing, and his family.
His survivors are his daughter Elvira Sousa of Tracy, Arlene Pistone and her husband Dan of Dublin, and his son-in-law Leon Sousa of Lodi, his grandchildren Georgette Trigo of Dublin, Shawn Sousa and his wife Heather of Grover Beach, Ca, Nick Sousa of Stockton, Marcus Sousa of Lodi, Mason Pistone of Dublin, his great grandson Canon Sousa of Grover Beach, Ca, his siblings Alice De Gloria Borges of Tracy, Albertina De Gloria Dutra of San Leandro, Jose Sousa Correia of Faial, Azores, His brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Correia and Elvira De Gloria Sousa Correia, a 12 year old, sister Maria De Gloria Correia, brother Manuel (Fernando) Correia.
Visitation for John will be on Wednesday December 15, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m, to follow will be a vigil at 7:00pm at Fry Memorial Chapel 550 S. Central Ave, Tracy, Ca 95376. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday December 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church 163 W.
