Eula Parkin Obituary

Eula (Pascoe) Parkin died Tuesday, December 9, 2010 at age 93 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. The youngest of 7 children, Eula grew up on a small farm in Wall South Dakota. When she was 18 she left the Badlands and bitter cold winters for the opportunity and warm sunny climate of the West Coast. Eula made her way to first Washington State and then to Lodi, California where she settled and has lived for the past 75 years.
Although Eula was often regarded as the silent partner to her late husband, Kenneth Parkin, those who knew her appreciated her fiery spirit and competitive nature – particularly when bowling, playing cards or at a softball game.
Favorite pastimes were Eula's knitting circle, cake decorating and when she was young, dancing. Eula and Ken both loved to dance. As long time Eagles, they enjoyed dinners and social occasions with their many friends.
Eula's favorite thing to eat was anything sweet especially toffee and anything but fish. After decades of eating the fish Kenneth caught, Eula finally declared when he died that fish would no longer be served for dinner.
Eula was happiest in the company of her grandchildren. Together they would bake, play games, listen to music and enjoy the outdoors. She also introduced all of the grandchildren to morning coffee with warm milk --- a treat that has now been passed down to her great grandchildren.
Eula's son Norman remembers his mother as always quietly being there for him and his family. No rants, no raves, just one of the strongest people I have ever met. The news media were the only people I ever saw her swear at.
Eula is survived by; sister Orma Pritchard of Lodi, Ca. Son Kenneth Parkin of Lodi, Ca. Son and daughter-in law Norman and Renee Parkin of Lodi, Ca. Grandson Barry Parkin (Amy) of Aberdeen, South Dakota. Grandaughter Julie Person (Eric) of Walnut Creek, Ca. Grandson Tony Parkin (Catherine) of Walnut Creek, Ca. Granddaughter Tiffany Allen (Colton) of Ashland, Oregon. Grandson Johnny Dodge Parkin currently attending Rice University, Texas. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
Eula was predeceased in death by her husband of 55 years, Kenneth George Parkin. Daughter, Gwendolyn Nadine Parkin. Son Walter Parkin(Joanne). Granddaughter Lisa Diane Parkin. Grandsons Robert Allen Parkin and Weston Alexander Parkin. Her brothers, Homer, Donald, Donovan Pascoe and sisters Bonita Tivis and Hazel Parkin.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Tuesday December 14th 2010 at 1:30pm at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will take place Monday, December 13, 2010 at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home located at 831 Industrial Way, Lodi, CA
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Children's Dream Works, mailing address: 11898 E. Hwy 12, Lockeford, CA 95237 or your favorite charity.
