Owen Edward "Eddie" Konchal

1911 - 2011

Owen Edward (Eddie) Konchal, 99, formerly of Galt, died June 11th at a local nursing home.  He was born August 30, 1911, in Alexander, North Dakota, and lived in Howard Lake, MN where his family owned the local newspaper.  He joined the US Navy in 1943 during WWII and served aboard a destroyer in the Pacific until 1945.  He worked at the family newspaper for many years before moving to California in 1953.  He worked at Folsom Telegraph and Carmichael Courier as a printer until 1957 when he and his wife moved to Galt and he was employed by The Galt Herald. After 15 years at the Herald, he retired in 1971. 
When his wife, Dorothy, passed away in 1998, Mr. Konchal met many caring friends at the Senior Citizens Center in Galt.  He also enjoyed his neighbors and friends at Galt Mobile Estates. We wish to thank his caregivers at Ashley Place and more recently at Vienna Convalescent Hospital for the many kindnesses he received in their care.
Visitation will be at Ben Salas Funeral Home on Wed. from 11 a.m. to 4 pm.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thurs at 10 a.m.  Mr. Konchal will then be transported to Minnesota to Howard Lake Cemetery to be by his wife.
