I had not seen Jon since probably the mid-90's, but I had known Jon since, oh, probably around kindergarten, and would run into him on and off throughout high school and college until he moved to Louisville in the early 90s..."Wellinghurst" as we affectionately called him, was a genuine guy which was one of the things I always liked about him. To say the least, I was saddened and shocked upon hearing about this...

To The Wellinghursts-
I just got back in town and heard about Jon. He has had a very special place in my heart since our years together at The Lexington School, Central Christian Church, and Tates Creek. He was the guy who came up to me at my wedding and told me my present was alive, so open it quickly (a goldfish). I have a thousand memories of Jon and his escapades. I also remember the day (in 5th grade?) we learned his Dad had died. I haven't seen him for quite some time, but was always confident that our paths would cross again. I am so sad to know that he is gone. Strength will come from remembering his laughter and a life well lived.
Love,

You are a beautiful girl and you have everything going for you. Lead your life Allie, don't let life lead you. Never stop dreaming and always reach for the stars. You are going to have a wonderful life because you are a wonderful person.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jon when he was looking for a house to rent when starting his job at Central Bapstist. I also met Allie which you could tell she was the apple of his eye. I happened to fall down the stairs which Jon never let me live down. He was a humerous kind hearted man. You made the most uncomfortable situation seem hilarious. Thank you and rest in peace.

I had the pleasure of working with Jon at Central Baptist. He never failed to bring a smile and humor into any situation. Jon was the type of person who drew others to him with his smile and made you feel like a lifelong friend even if he had only known you for a short time. He was a truly remarkable father and it was a joy to watch his eyes light up whenever he spoke about his precious daughter Allie. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.

Jon,

I am so glad I had the opportunity to know you these past few years. Working with you was a pleasure, you were smart, caring and so very funny and you had such an insight into the crazy world we worked in and you knew never to take it seriously. I thank you for that. I am grateful I had the chance to become friends with you. I enjoyed your sense of humor ,your love of football and sports and was especially touched by your love for your precious daughter Allie. It always warmed my heart to see you smile and to watch your eyes light up when you spoke about Allie or when I would see the two of you out together. I always saw so much of you in her and it is a comfort to know your warmth will live on in her.

To Allie and family, I am so sorry for your loss and you all in are in my thoughts and prayers.

In every conversation I had with Jon recently, he talked about Allie. She was the light of his life. I pray for her. To lose her mother and now, her father. Crushing.

Jon never got over losing his wife. He loved and lived that way.....110%. He gave his all...whether it was his friendship or his energy. I will miss you Jon and so will all whom ever came in contact with you.

I was blessed to work with Jon at Central Baptist in Lexinton a few years ago. He made me laugh frequently to the point of tears during our work day. I had the pleasure of being Jon's friend and colleague; he gave me so much that he may not have realized by just being authentically Jon. Thanks for your company, your humor and caring, I will not forget you or your smile. You are loved much!

I met Jon during social events in the mid 80's. I will never forget the "Noodle Dance" Jon invented at Cara and Bruce's wedding. As well as many other happy get togethers in Lexington, Louisville and Bardstown. Jon was truly a wonderful man. My heart and prayers go out to the Wellinghurst family.

Neil, George, Penny, and Allie,
I am so sorry for your loss. All of our graduating class at TLS were like brothers and sisters, and I feel I've lost one of my own. I was lucky enough to run into Jon about 4 years ago and aside from a little gray in his hair, he was the same sweet, funny, big-smiled 'brother' that he had been 25 years before. We are all a little better for having had him in our lives.
Even though my heart breaks with yours, my prayers are that God will bless you during this time with a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Jon, my friend, you are so missed. When I think of you, laughter is my first thought. You always managed to make those around you laugh with joy. I will forever cherish our friendship from high school days to late nights studying at law school. Jon, you are truly one of a kind.

I too had the pleasure of working with Jon at Humana. He would send post-it "air mail" messages over the workstation wall. Witty, caring, smart and he had a huge heart. The last time I saw Jon was at the St Agnes picnic. Our daughters, who are the same age, rode rides while we caught up over a few beers. I'll miss him and the world is sadder with him gone. I wish his family strength. You all are in my prayers. Jon, I hope you are at peace and smiling down.

I knew John through WellPoint. While I didn't have the opportunity to see him often, I talked with him on the phone quite frequently. He was always full of good humor and I could count on him for a "chuckle" in the middle of day. He will be missed. Thoughts and prayers are lifted up for his daughter and family.

To my beloved friend and pledge brother, it brings me great sadness to write these words. Although I never told you, you were a great inspiration to me then and even now. I know the goodness you carried in your heart and mind. It exuded from your smile and kind words. You were a life long friend. One that I will never forget. In God we trust... TC

Neil, Karen, Allie and family,

We are so very sorry to learn of Jon's passing. Although we didn't know him, just reading the entries in this guestbook tells us he was well-liked by those who knew and worked with him. He was obviously a very intelligent man who suffered the death of his dear wife several years ago. We are eager to help in any way possible. Our hearts are aching for you. We will pray for Jon and your entire family.

I am Allie's homeroom teacher at Mary Queen in Lexington. Jon was a very involved and supportive parent in Allie's school life. He tried to pick her up from school at 3:00 whenever he could because he knew she did not really like going to after school care. They were very close and my heart is so sad for Allie. My students had to pick an everyday hero this year and write an essay; Allie wrote a beautiful piece about her dad being her everyday hero. I pray for her that she will find comfort in the memories she and her dad created together.

I met Jon the summer of 1980. A group of us hung out in a pack; swimming in the Kentucky river, going to movies, working bad fast food jobs, listening to music, having soap opera summer love affairs...it was an idyllic summer and Jon was a huge reason for that. His humor, heart, and overall zest for life...As a tribute to Joh, I'm going to spend the day listening to music that was popular that summer. You are missed, Jon.
