Howard C. Whitten Sr.

20 years with Mitre; age 94
TEWKSBURY Howard C. Whitten, age 94, a well-known resident of Tewksbury, died peacefully Tuesday morning, June 24, at the Wingate at Lowell, with his family at his side.
He was the husband of the late Lorraine M. (Aubut) Whitten, who died in 2001.
Mr. Whitten was born in Lawrence, but had lived the greater part of his life in Tewksbury.
He began his career as a routeman for Cushman Bakery, which delivered fresh bread and pastries door to door, and had the towns of Tewksbury and Billerica as his route. Upon retirement from Cushman, he began his second Career at Mitre Corporation in Bedford, where he worked as a document clerk for the next 20 years.
Howard and his late wife were devout Catholics, and worked activly during the growth years of St. William's Parish in Tewksbury. He ushered every Sunday at the 11:30 a.m. Mass, and also served on the St. William's Holy Name Society.
He was a member of the Fr. Coppen's Council, Knights of Columbus in Tewksbury, and a 4th Degree member of the Bishop Delaney, Knights of Columbus, which includes the Greater Lowell area.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Charles Miller of Tewksbury; a son, Howard C. Whitten, of Tewksbury; his grandchildren, Pamela Ann and her husband, Frank Sepulveda of Tewksbury, Scott Miller of Tewksbury, Craig Miller of Tewksbury; a great-grandson, Evan Pierce Sepulveda; two sisters, Beatrice LaPointe and Sylvia Burke, both of Florida; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Louise Whitten of Florida,
Joseph Aubut of Tewksbury, Jeannette McCusker of Tewksbury, and Marcelle Egan of Pennsylvania; and
numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Mary Begin, and
Joseph A. Whitten.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, July 2, at 9:00 a.m. from the TEWKSBURY FUNERAL HOME, corner of Dewey and Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, phone (800 in MA or 978) 851-2950. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38), Tewksbury. Burial will be in Tewksbury Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Oblate Infirmary Fund, 486 Chandler St., Tewksbury, MA 01876, will be appreciated.
