Sheldon Wolff Obituary

Dr. Sheldon Wolff honored for work, effects of human radiation SAN FRANCISCO, CA Sheldon Wolff, 79, of San Francisco, formerly of Peabody and Lowell, MA, died May 24, 2008. Dr. Wolff, a graduate of Tufts ('50) and Harvard (PhD '53) was an internationally known cytogeneticist who won several awards for his studies on the effects of radiation on humans. He worked at Oak Ridge National Labs in the '60's and then as a professor and Director of Radiology at the University of California in San Francisco. Retired, in 1996 he was appointed vice chairman and chief of research at the Radiation Effects Research Foundation in Hiroshima, Japan, where he served for four years. He was the husband of Frances Farbstein Wolff; father of Victor, of San Francisco; Roger of Salt Lake City; and Jessica of Carlsbad, CA; also survived by three grandchildren. Services and burial were in Beaufort, South Carolina.
