John Zounes Obituary

John M. Zounes formerly of Lowell, WWII vet; 82 DAYTONA BEACH, FL John M. Zounes, 82, Daytona Beach, FL, beloved husband of Pamela J. Zounes, died peacefully at this home, after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. He was born to Michael Zounes and Mary (Karkinides) Zounes in Port Jervis, NY, on May 20, 1926. He spent his early years in Lowell, MA and Schenectady, NY, with the last 40 years having resided in Daytona Beach, FL. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Pastores, serving his country proudly and bravely during World War II both in the Phillipines as well as major campaigns in the far east. John was educated in the Lowell and New York school system, graduating from Christian Brothers Military Academy in Albany, NY. He was involved with the family business for most of his life, but prior to his illness, he was employed as a Beverage Manager for 19 years at Julians Restaurant of Ormond Beach, FL. He was not only loved by his co-workers but by all of his customers as well. John was a musical afficiando of all types of music, an avid sports enthusiast, a talented artist, and excelled in the audio and visual field. He enjoyed listening to music, making music, and watching old movies. Besides his wife, he is survived by a brother, William and his wife, Lynne Brown-Zounes of Lowell, MA; a niece, Marianne Mullin of Hampstead, NH; and a nephew, Michael Zounes of Dracut, MA. On his wife's side, he is survived by many sisters-in-law; an extended family of son and daughters; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, who all loved him very much. John was predeceased by his father, Micheal Zounes; mother, Mary Zounes; brother, Charles Zounes of Daytona Beach, FL; and daughter, Stephanie Boyer of Rockford, IL. ZOUNES Per his wishes, a private service was held in Daytona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lowell Senior Center, 276 Broadway St., Lowell, MA 01854.

My name is Christina Schmidt, John was the most loving dad in the world when I would do wrong as a child he would sit on my bed (at our home the only house on Daytona Beach 209 North Ocean avenue Daytona Beach Florida his family had the bath house for many years)and tell me Christina you're breaking my heart he never laid a hand on me but it would always make me cry because I let him down. He would never bring it up again because he knew that I would never repeat the same mistake because I didn't want to let him down! As a grandfather he loved my children so. He was there at their birth he was there at their baptisms he was there through all the ups and downs and as with me when he would talk to my children about what they did wrong it would break their hearts and they would cry. He would make cassettes for me and always took pictures at everything important in our lives!!! I miss him so much! I took him to every doctor appointment I took him to everything he needed(chemo therapy) I held his hand through it all. I took care of him along with my mama and hospice they taught me everything I needed to know to take care of him and keep him comfortable. We will never ever forget him and the love he had for life and all of us.We all loved and love him. Our whole family! John we miss you so dearly. And in Jesus name I pray that you are welcome by all of your loved ones that have gone before you. I am so grateful for having you in my life being blessed by you being there the man that you were and that you always will be God bless you and Jesus name amen.
