Francis Doherty Obituary

Francis Xavier Doherty of Chelmsford, MA, formerly of Waltham CHELMSFORD Mr. Francis "Grampa" Xavier Doherty, of Chelmsford, formerly of Waltham and Cambridge, MA, died Sunday, August 10, 2008, at the Westford Genesis House. He was married to Mrs. Jeanette G. (Quigley) Doherty with whom he had celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary on July 31, 2008. Francis was born in Boston, MA, on January 16, 1926. He was a graduate of North Cambridge Catholic High School in Cambridge, MA. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII in the Pacific, he attained the rank of Sergeant, and he was honorably discharged in July of 1946. He was employed with the Middlesex County Hospital in Waltham until his retirement in 1991. He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in Cambridge, MA. Besides his wife, Jeanette, he is survived by a son, Francis J. and his wife, Lisa Doherty of Westford; a daughter, Kathleen and her husband, Stephen O'Donnell of Dracut; a step-son, Daniel Walsh; a step-daughter and her husband, Jayne and George Phelan of Chelmsford; a step-daughter-in-law, Nancy Walsh of Brookline, NH; a former daughter-in-law, Sandra Heck of Rocklin, CA; 10 cherished grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was the stepfather of the late David Walsh of Brookline, NH who died in 2001. DOHERTY Francis "Grampa" X. Doherty, of Chelmsford, formerly of Waltham and Cambridge, MA, died August 10, 2008. No Visiting hours. A private Memorial Service was held yesterday at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME 106 MIDDLESEX ST. CHELMSFORD. Burial in Mt. Feake Cemetery, Waltham. Memorials may be made in his name to the Hospice of Nashoba Nursing Service, 2 Shaker Rd., Suite D225, Shirley, MA 01464-2525. ARRANGEMENTS BY DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 978-251-4041.
