James G. Antonakos
U.S. Navy WWII Veteran
CHELMSFORD James G. Antonakos, a resident of Chelmsford and formerly of Tewksbury and Wilmington, died on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. He was the beloved husband of Sophie K. (Kalantzakos) Antonakos to whom he had been married for 46 years and who survives him and resides in Chelmsford.
He was born on August 13, 1920 in Lowell a son of the late George J. and Stella (Genakos) Antonakos.
Mr. Antonakos was educated in the Lowell and Dorchester School Systems.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII.
Prior to his retirement he worked for the Sheraton Hotel Chain. He also worked in the Banquet Dept at the Park Plaza Hotel and the Statler Hotel.
He was a member of the D.A.V. chapter 110, Greek American Legion, Hellenic Culture Society, Hellenic Heritage Society and the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell and was also a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Woburn.
He was an avid sports fan and loved children.
In addition to his loving wife he is survived by 2 brothers, Nicholas G. Antonakos of Arlington and Charles G. Antonakos and his wife Elizabeth of Quincy, 2 sisters, Mary A. Pergantis of Arlington and Pauline A. Macaris and her husband John of Billerica and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves three sisters-in-law, Martha K. Lawrence of Lowell, Stella K. Hantzes of Chelmsford and Effie K. Routsis and her husband Christos of Lowell and two brothers-in law, Nicholas Kalantzakos and his wife Helen of Portsmouth, NH and Michael Kalantzakos of East Chelmsford. He was pre-deceased by three brothers, John G., Michael G. and Frances A. Antonakos.
ANTONAKOS James G. Antonakos, a resident of Chelmsford and formerly of Tewksbury and Wilmington, died on Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening from 4 to 7pm at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Lewis St., Lowell. Burial in Westlawn Cemetery. Expression of sympathy may be made to the Hellenic American Academy, 41 Broadway St., Lowell, MA 01854. Arrangements by Blake Funeral Home, Chelmsford.
