James H. Parechanian
Lowell native, research chemist, WWII vet; 96
NEW IPSWICH, NH James H. Parechanian, 96, of New Ipswich, NH, and a former 60 year resident of
Naugatuck, CT, and 10 year resident of Beverly, MA, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home on Monday, September 15, 2008.
He was the beloved husband of the late Servart (Sylvia) Guregian Parechanian.
He was born in Lowell, son of the late Hampartzoon and Tourvanda (Kurkjian) Parechanian. James graduated in 1935 with his M.S. degree in chemistry from the Lowell Textile Institute where he was Vice President of his class and president of the Delta Kappa Phi fraternity.
A Captain in the U.S. Army Chemical Corps, he served in the Chemical
Warfare Division from 1938 to 1953.
Upon his return from WWII, he
continued his work at UniRoyal Inc., where he helped to develop latex surgical gloves, Naugahyde and breathable rice bags for CARE.
A published research chemist, he was a lifelong member of St. Vartanantz Armenian Church in
Chelmsford, MA, and was a member of the Shepard-Salem Masonic Lodge of Naugatuck, CT since 1948.
He was an avid golfer at Hop Brook Golf Course in Naugatuck, and enjoyed his friends and bridge games at the Beverly Senior Center
He is survived by his loving daughter, Lisa (Siobhan) Allen and her husband, Scott of New Ipswich, NH, his twin granddaughters, Ana and Elena Allen; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Mousaian, and his brother, Harry Parechanian.
PARECHANIAN James H. Parechanian. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday morning from 9 to 10:30am at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 o'clock at St. Vartanantz Armenian Church 180 Old Westford Rd., Chelmsford. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
