Leona Knight Obituary

Leona M. Knight of Chelmsford, animal rescue supporter; 90 CHELMSFORD Leona M. (McLaughlin) Knight, 90, a lifelong resident of Chelmsford, died on Thursday, September 18, 2008. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold E. Knight to whom she was married to for 49 years. She was born on March 27, 1918, in Lowell, a daughter of the late Bernard and Sarah (Doherty) McLaughlin. She was a graduate of Chelmsford High School, Class of 1935, and of Bradshaw Business College. She attended and received certification for advanced accounting courses from Boston University. She later returned to Bradshaw Business College where she taught advanced accounting. During WWII, she worked for the Federal Government at First Service Command. She also worked at the Veteran's Hospital in Bedford in the financial division, at the Belvidere School in Lowell, and the Nashoba Brooks School of Concord, and was also a notary public. She was a strong supporter of all animal rescue services, a former member of Nashua Country Club, and Middlesex Women's Club of Lowell. She was a well known lover of animals and she was seldom seen without her beautiful lab dog. She enjoyed reading and travel. She is survived by her son, Dr. Lee S. Knight of Salem, NH; special friends and extended family, Carolyn and Raymond Hall and their daughters, Bronwen and Hanna of Methuen, John and Katy Murphy and their daughter, Gillian, Brian and Shawna Martin and their daughters, Andrea and Brianna of Dracut; her goddaughter, Patti McDonnell of Chelmsford; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. KNIGHT Leona M. (McLaughlin) Knight. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday morning from 10 to 11 o'clock at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. A Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Knight's name to the MSPCA Angell Memorial Hospital, 352 S. Dear Leona,
I had only known for a few short moments of this life but you touch me deeply. You were always in my thoughts since I first meet you. You were the living roots to my past for which I can never thank you enough. Say hello to everyone for me because I still have plenty of work to do down here. Goodbye for now. Forever in my prayers.
