Mary Burke Obituary

Mary M. Burke retired Morey School teacher; 86 LOWELL Mary M. (Furey) Burke, 86, of the Highlands Section of Lowell, died Sunday afternoon, September 21, 2008, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford. She was the wife of the late William F. Burke, Jr. who died in June of 2000. Born in Lowell, on June 12, 1922, the daughter of the late John P. and the late Irene (O'Hara) Furey. She attended Lowell Schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. She then graduated from Lowell State Teachers College now the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a member of the University of Massachusetts Alumni Association. Before retiring several years ago, Mrs. Burke was a teacher at the Morey School in Lowell. Previously, she taught in the Tewksbury schools. She was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association. She was a communicant of St. Margaret Church and held membership in the Blessed Virgin Sodality of her Parish, the League of Catholic Women, and the Poor Clare Guild. Mrs. Burke is survived by two daughters, Ruth Corbett and her husband, Andrew of Lowell, and Mary Patricia Murphy and her husband, Jeffrey of Norfolk, MA; a son William M. Burke and his wife, Audrey of Bow, NH; three granddaughters, Sandra Burke, Tiffany Murphy, and MacKenzie Burke; two grandsons, Michael Corbett and Shawn Burke; a sister, Patricia McNamara of Hampton, NH; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Raymond Furey. BURKE In Chelmsford, September 21, 2008, at Sunny Acres, Mary M. (Furey) Burke, 86, of Lowell, wife of the late William F. Burke, Jr. Friends may call at the O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M., Tuesday. Her funeral will take place from the funeral home Wednesday morning at 8:30 A.M. followed by A Funeral Mass at ST. MARGARET CHURCH 9:30 A.M. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
