Barbara Jacobs Obituary

Barbara J. Jacobs of Lunenburg; 84 Lunenburg Barbara J. (Finney) Jacobs, 84, of Lunenburg formerly of Groton, died Monday evening in the Highlands in Fitchburg. She was born in Newburyport, on Feb. 1, 1924 a daughter of the late, William P. and Dorothy (Sherret) Finney. Barbara was a bus driver for the Town of Westford for several years prior to her retirement. Before that she was a nurse's aid in the Pediatric Ward at Lowell General Hospital and several years before that she worked at the Bedford V.A. Hospital were she set up the first women's ward during WWII. She was a member of United Parish and avid booster of the Lunenburg High football program where she was best known for her ringing of a cow bell during games. She cherished her time with her children and grandchildren especially attending their sporting events and dance recitals. Her husband Joseph R. Jacobs died in 1978. She leaves four sons, David Webb and his wife Lynn of Londonderry, NH, Ray Jacobs and his wife Mary of Ashburnham, James Jacobs and his wife Robin of Lunenburg and Kenneth Jacobs of Leominster; five daughters, Barbara Lemire and her husband Richard of Lowell, Pauline Black-Hand and her husband Charles of Lunenburg, Sue Markham and her husband Steve of Coventry, RI, Donna Crowley and her Husband James of W. Newfield, ME and Sandra Foley of Harwich; a sister Joan Luciano of Florida; 25 grandchildren and over 40 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband she is predeceased by two brothers, two sisters and two great-grandchildren. JACOBS A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the Lunenburg Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 763 Massachusetts Ave. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Thursday evening prior to the service from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Burial in the Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington will take place on Friday, Oct. 24, at 11:00 am. In lieu flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Highland's Activity Fund, 335 Nichols Rd., Fitchburg, MA 01420 or to the Virginia Thurston Healing Garden, a community of support for women with breast cancer, 145 Bolton Rd., Harvard, MA 01451-0145. www.masciarellifamilyfuneralhomes.net
