Kathy, Bruce and family, I told Dad I didn't have the money for a haircut in 1965. He gave me $2 and said he'd see me @Talbot's when I got paid on Friday. Thanks for sharing this great Irishman and American with us. Please accept my prayers and deepest affection.

Dear Kathy,
I was very sorry to hear about your father. We often talked about sports at LHS, and he was also my third-year Latin teacher in Room 119. I don't think I'll ever forget the following: All Gaul was divided into three parts.

I graduated from Lowell High School in 1969 and I will ALWAYS remember Mr. Murphy. In fact, over the years his name has come up quite a few times while reminiscing about school days with my family and friends.

He was my Latin teacher. And it was a pleasure to have him as my teacher. Latin was one of my favorite subjects not only because I enjoyed learning it but also because Mr. Murphy taught it. With my knowledge and love of Latin, I eventually found my way into the medical field as a coder. It was a job I truly enjoyed and Mr. Murphy was partly responsible for that. I loved his wit – he was so funny at times – and I admired his attitude and teaching methods. He was kind, fair, and understanding. He treated us all with respect – as we did him – and he kept us on our toes yet he still knew how to ‘reach’ us and keep that special bond between teacher and student. Beneath his some time stern-looking exterior, one could still see the twinkle in his eyes.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. My dad passed away just last year so I understand what it is like to lose a great man. I just wanted to let you know how much I truly enjoyed Mr. Murphy and I will never forget him.
