Oscar Gerlach Obituary

Oscar Gerlach of Hudson, NH Hudson, NH On November 23rd Oscar Frederick Gerlach passes away quietly after losing his length battle with Alzheimer's disease. He had been a resident at Fairview Nursing Facility, in Hudson since April 2008. Mr. Gerlach was born on January 5, 1922 in Providence, RI. He served several years in the Marine Corps during WWII and received an Honorable Discharge. Oscar was also one of the first founding officers of the Littleton V.F.W., in which he took great pride in organizing. He moved to Pepperell with his wife Kay and children in 1952. He worked as a master carpenter for John Fredricks while also volunteering on the Pepperell Fire Department. His career soon changed course when he took a position on the Pepperell Police Department under the leadership of John Pelletier. In 1971, Oscar moved to Merrimack, NH to continue his professional career with Chief Pelletier. After further education and training at the NH State Police Academy, Oscar quickly achieved the position of Deputy Chief in which he received many commendations for his performance and leadership. He was affectionately given the nickname of "The Big O" by his peers and fellow officers. He also served as Merrimack's Chief Prosecutor during his tenure until his retirement to Florida in 1986. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, with whom he would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this week on November 28, 2008. Kathleen is also a resident at Fairview Nursing Facility and was by his side during his last hours. He leaves behind seven children, Kathleen Razzaboni of Pepperell, Candace Casey of Maynard, Michael Gerlach on Manchester, NH, Corrine Adamskyof Stow MA, Lillian Merlero of Lompoc, CA, Cynthia Mohney of Port Orange, FL and Matthew Gerlach. He will be greatly missed by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren and all those whose life he touched. GERLACH A Funeral Service will be held at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St, Groton on Saturday at 10am. Visiting Hours will be Friday 7-9pm.

My condollences to all of the Gerlach family and friends for their loss. I'm glad that I got to visit with Oscar and Kathy a couple years ago while they were in their home in Hollis where we shared some memories and had a few laughs. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
