Raymond Garneau Obituary

Raymond J. Garneau Lowell printing co. retiree, Navy vet; 76 LOWELL Raymond J. Garneau, age 76, a resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell, died Monday, November 24th, at Saints Medical Center in Lowell, following a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Joan H. (Haley) Garneau with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage this past June. Born in Weston, MA, on March 4, 1932, he was a son of the late Felix J. and Anna (Boudreau) Garneau. Raymond attended Lowell schools, and was a graduate of Ste. Jeanne d'Arc Grammar School and Lowell Trade School. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for over 35 years by Courier Citizen of Lowell, as a Maintenance Supervisor. Raymond was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict serving aboard the USS Dennis J. Buckley with his brother, Felix J. Garneau Jr. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, and the Navy Occupation Service Medal - European Clasp. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. A member of the Club Temps of Lowell where he enjoyed playing cards and was on the Board of Directors for many years. He was a member of the Walker Rogers VFW Post #662 of Lowell, The American Legion Post #247 of Tyngsboro, and the LMBC Lowell Motor Boat Club. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family. he was an avid sports fan, and also enjoyed his many trips to Atlantic City. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five sons, Raymond 'Gus' G. Garneau of Lowell, Paul L. Garneau and his wife, Mary Ellen of Lowell, Donald A. Garneau and his wife, Gladys of Tyngsboro, James R. Garneau of Dracut, and Kevin J. Garneau and his wife, Maria of Lowell; one sister, Irene DeLorme of Lowell; one brother, Robert E. Garneau and his wife, Beulah of Florida. Also survived by 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; as well as sisters- & brothers -in-law; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was also the father of the late William B. Garneau who died in 2003, and brother of the late Roland J., Leo J., and Albert J., and Felix J. Garneau, Jr. GARNEAU Raymond J. Garneau, age 76, a resident of the Belvidere section of Lowell, died Nov. 24, 2008. Beloved husband of Joan H. (Haley) Garneau. A U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Family and friends may call on Friday, Nov. 28th from 4 to 8 P.M. at the ARCHAMBAULT FUNERAL HOME, 309-311 Pawtucket St., Lowell. Funeral Saturday morning with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 o'clock at the Immaculate Conception Church, E. Merrimack St., Lowell. Interment with Military Honors to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. Donations in Memory of Raymond may be made to Wish Project, 1A Foundry St., Lowell, MA 01852. Funeral Director Victor J. Aunt Joan.Irene and all the Garneau's: I just wanted to thank all of you for letting me be a big part of you husband, brother and father's life. He was there for me to tell me when I did things right and also when I was making mistakes. He was more than just a uncle to me and he and all of you mean the world to me. I am sadden for all of you but you have to know this man touch so many lifes not only his kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews but also great nieces and nephews and he was also part of my grandchildren's life. I will miss him dearly but I will never forget my last trip with him to Atlantic City and I am so happy that I got to go because he was so excited to show me around. We will all miss this man and all his stories but I hope now he is at peace and no pain. I love you with all my heart Uncle Ray. PS Donny Linda messed up my computer again!

Ray will be sadly missed, he was a straight forward man that was always honest in everything he did, it came along with a blended portion of his heart that made it just right :)! I will miss walking into the French Club and him not being there to great me with a warm smile, a firm handshake and great conversation, he now resides in a much more inclusive club!
