David Kent Obituary

David O. Kent of Chelmsford; 43 CHELMSFORD David O. Kent, 43. Always one to move to the beat of his own drum, David chose to stop radiation and chemotherapy for his very aggressive head and neck cancer, and enter hospice. He died peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. David was born October 5, 1965 in NYC, the day the Pope first visited America. They both stopped traffic and had a ticker tape parade. He attended Chelmsford grammar school, the Pike School, Governor Dummer Academy, UMASS Lowell and Goddard College. David had a multi-faceted life with many friends. He was always a loving, quiet observer of human nature. The past 15 years he chose to live at the Intentional Community of East Wind in Missouri. A member of the Federation of Egalitarian Communities, East Wind promotes a lifestyle of cooperation, non-violence, equality and democracy. He worked in multiple offices from finance, to healthcare, to manufacturing nut butters and hammocks. He cultivated long and loyal friendships with those who valued his capable leadership, uncompromising values and fiercely independent spirit. His interests were varied and complex. He loved reading, music, the environment and politics, but mostly he was about making this world a better place. A friend once said, "When he looked he saw, and when he listened he heard". The mischievous twinkle in his eye and his loving gentle smile will be sorely missed. Beloved son of Dr. Alan and Monica Kent, cherished brother of Meredith Kent of Chelmsford. Nephew of Dolores and Peter Russell of Stamford, CT. Cousin of Daniel Russell and Marney and Sean Cogan. His "extra" days were a testament to his caregivers at the Lowell General Cancer Center, the Lowell VNA, and Massachusetts General Hospital. KENT David O. Kent, 43, of Chelmsford. Visiting hours at the Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., CHELMSFORD, THIS EVENING from 4-7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854 or to The VNA & Hospice of Greater Lowell, PO Box 1965, Lowell, MA 01853 , may be made in David's name. I want to send my condolences to the family and friends of David. May you be encouraged and comforted as I am by the promise of Jesus to bring back our dead loved ones back to life in the future on earth to be with us again under his kingdom rule when there will be no more sickness, no more pain, no more suffering, and no more death. May you dear friends also be comforted by your love, support, and care for each other.
