Edgar Perkins Obituary

Edgar F. Perkins town of Harvard retiree, Army vet; 93 HARVARD Edgar F. Perkins, 93, of Harvard, died peacefully at Saturday December 6, at Apple Valley Nursing Home in Ayer. He was born in Fitchburg, on March 3, 1915, son of the late Charles F. and Emily (Holmes) Perkins. He was the husband of Ruth Virginia (Gundersen) Perkins. They were married September 30, 1939 in Ayer and recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Edgar was a lifelong Harvard resident. He graduated from Bromfield High School in 1933. He was employed by the Town of Harvard in 1934, and retired in 1981 where he worked as a school Custodian and Cemetery Superintendent. He was also employed by Charles A. Perkins Engineering in Clinton, MA. Mr. Perkins served honorably in the United States Army from 1943 until 1945 and was stationed in England, France and Germany and was at Normandy on D-Day. He enjoyed spending weekends with his family at his camp on Franklin Pierce Lake in Antrim, NH. His love for the outdoors included gardening and his favorite pastime of searching for and collecting glass bottles from old farms sites. His collection numbered in the thousands. He and Ruth were active in members of the Harvard 60-Plus Club and they both enjoyed dancing. In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by his daughter, Claudia R. Muck of Tulsa, OK; his sons and daughters-in law, Ralph E and Debbie Perkins of Milton, VT, and Dana H. Perkins and Debbra Ward of Lunenburg, MA; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles A. Perkins, and Paul D. Perkins, and his sisters, Ethel Kinsman and Blanche Waterman. PERKINS A Memorial Service will be held Thursday at the Badger Funeral Home, 347 King St., Littleton at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.
