Dear Garland Family, I have such great memories of all of us growing up together, the clam bakes, the fathers jumping into the pool off of the roof, hanging underwear from the flagpole... I know you think we were to young to remember, but we do! I loved that our dad's were so close and I think now that they are together, raising H*** up in heaven, watching the games and drinking beer together like old times and celebrating their birthdays together! I am so glad that you all are a part of our lives, even as we got older and married, you welcomed our spouses as we do yours like family. We will truly miss "Mr. Garland" as much as we miss our own Dad. I remember how much support and love you gave to all of us when my Dad passed and we would like to do everything we can to help comfort you all through this difficult time. I still miss my Dad everyday and I can say that the pain will ease in time, but I take comfort in the fact that he is watching over us and even though he was only able to meet two out of ten of his grandchildren we know that he sends his spirit through them to guide them through the difficulties in life and make sure that they stop to have some fun! I know you all are remembering the good times you shared together and will treasure them throughout the rest of your lives. We love you all and will continue to be connected through our pain and losses, as well as our joys and successes.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

TOGETHERNESS
Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way you always used. Put no difference into your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me.
Let my name be the household name it always was. Let it be spoken without the shadow of a ghost in it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. What is death but a negligble accident. Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight. All is well, nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
Dear Dorsey, Dwayne, Dana and
Danelle:
Please know our sorrow for your loss and that you're in our thoughts and prayers. May the special things about "Duke" live on inside your hearts forever. With deepest sympathy.

Dwayne,
So very sorry to learn of your Dad's passing. From experience, no words can possibly help you now. Its' been over a year now since my Mom passed. It's truly the love for your family, and the bond that I remember you had with them, that will carry you through, day by day, for quite some time. My sympathy to your wonderful mom and sisters too. It's never fair that they be taken from us too soon and because of that I truly feel your pain. I know you will find comfort in time, not sure when, but it will come and I wish you the very best in the meantime.

I am so sorry to hear of your fathers passing. It is a painful time and I know your heart is broken as is your family's. Though the healing is slow it will happen as we are still healing from our loss in July. You will all find strength in one another.
God Bless your family.

To Dorcey, Dwayne, Dana, and Danelle. We at the Dracut PD all loved and respected Duke. He was an outstanding police officer and friend to all he came in contact. I'am honored to have worked with him but even more honored to be his friend. I will miss him dearly but will always remember the good times we had.
