James Callahan Obituary

James F. Callahan Lowell court magistrate, lawyer, Navy vet; 85 BILLERICA James F. Callahan, age 85, husband of Dorothy (Haviland) Callahan to whom he was married for 64 years, died Wednesday, at Saints Medical Center in Lowell. He was born in Cambridge, Nov. 5, 1922, son of the late James F. and Anna (Dwyer) Callahan. He lived in Cambridge before moving to Billerica in 1944. Mr. Callahan served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Wakefield. He was a proud graduate of Boston College Law School. Mr. Callahan was previously employed as a Billerica Police Officer, and an Attorney-at-Law. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Callahan served as the Assistant Clerk Magistrate of the Lowell District Court Besides his wife, Mr. Callahan is survived by his 2 sons, James F. Callahan Jr. and his wife, Irene of Billerica, and Michael Callahan and his wife, Barbara of Dracut; his daughter, JoAnn Callahan of Billerica; 3 brothers, Jackie Callahan of TX, George Callahan and his wife Doris of MD, and Joseph Callahan and his wife, Dorothy of Everett; 3 grandchildren, James Callahan of GA, Jill Callahan of ME, and Laura Callahan of Lowell. Also survived by two great-grandchildren. Mr. Callahan was the grandfather of the late Thomas Callahan. CALLAHAN Of Billerica, Nov. 28, James F. Callahan, husband of Dorothy (Haviland) Callahan. Funeral Saturday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Friday from 3-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital Trust, 1 Autumn St. #731, Boston, MA. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. Funeral Directors W.J. and Dean M. Laurendeau.

My sincerest condolences to the Callahan Family. Jim was one of the bail bondsman while I was a booking officer with the Lowell PD for several years. He'd always bring his trusty Westie with him.
