Assunta Mullaney Obituary

Assunta R. 'Sue' Mullaney, 75 An angel to all who knew her LEOMINSTER Assunta Rose "Sue" (Simeoni) Mullaney, 75, of Leominster, died on Saturday, December 1, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. Mullaney was born in Leominster, on Oct. 9, 1932, daughter of Stefano and Madeline (Casacca) Simeoni, and lived in Leominster her entire life. She was a member of St. Leo's Church in Leominster. Throughout her life, Sue's warm smile and unconditional love embraced all whose paths crossed hers. Sue's greatest joy was her grandchildren, Paul, Peter and Kathryn Hodskins; and Ryan, Kaela, Joseph, Sean, Adam and Patrick Mullaney. She was a caregiver to them in every way and nurtured them as they grew into amazing young people. She was a loving, patient and protective wife, and mother whose life revolved around Dick, her husband of 50 years, and her four children, Joan, David, Mike and Steve. She loved her daughters-in-law, Brenda and Christine, and son-in-law, Roger, as though they were her own children. She cherished all of her extended family and was a friend and confidant to her many nieces and nephews, especially Bill, Gregg and Andy Reed. Sue touched the hearts of many people throughout her life, and always put others before herself. Sue graduated from Leominster High School in 1950, where she served as vice president of the National Honor Society, and she attended Stevens Business College in Fitchburg. She worked for Roma Bakery and later as a bookkeeper for M. Sabatelli, Inc. While raising her family, and serving as primary caregiver to her elderly parents, Sue worked with her husband as office manager for their trucking business, Richard J. Mullaney Transportation. During her youth, Sue was a member of St. Anna Parish and its Children of Mary Sodality. She was a member of Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg, the HealthAlliance Guild, the Leominster High School Class of 1950 Reunion Committee, and was a founding member of the Italian-American Cultural Society. Sue is survived by her husband, Richard J. Mullaney; a daughter, Joan E. Hodskins and her husband, Roger A. Hodskins of Leominster; three sons, David R. Mullaney and his wife, Brenda M. Mullaney, Michael J. Mullaney and his wife, Christine L. Mullaney, and Stephen J. Mullaney, all of Leominster; her nephews, Gregg S. Reed of Dunbarton, N.H., and Andrew C. Reed of South Hampton, N.H.; a brother, Louis R. Simeoni and his wife, Gilda G. Simeoni, of Philadelphia, PA; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary M. Reed; a nephew, William E. Reed III; and a granddaughter, Angela M. Mullaney. MULLANEY A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, in St. Leo's Church, 128 Main St., Leominster. Burial will be in St. Leo's Cemetery, 360 Lancaster St., Leominster. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 3 at Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, 106 West St., Leominster. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or memorial contributions may be made to the Friedreich's Ataxia Research Alliance, P.O. Box 1537, Springfield, VA 22151-0537.
