Gerald Adell Obituary

WINTHROP -- Gerald "Jerry" Adell, 89, of Winthrop, passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.

Jerry was born on Sept. 2, 1919, in Winthrop, the son of John and Isabel (Davis) Adell. He attended schools in Readfield and Belgrade.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II, 25th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart, during operations in the Pacific.

He married Marie Nadeau in 1946 and they enjoyed 56 years together before her death Dec. 31, 2001.

Jerry worked for the Maine Department of Transportation for 46 years as a shovel/loader operator in warm weather and in winter months, operated a plow for the Winthrop Maintenance Division.

In addition to his wife, Jerry was predeceased by brothers, Clint, Harold and Wesley; and sisters, Mary Adell, Helen Roy and Mildred Chamberlain.

He is survived by his sister, Christine Stevens, of Marlboro, Mass.; his brother, Tom Adell of Augusta and Florida; a stepson, Robert Curry of Kennebunkport, along with many nieces, nephews and a cousin.

Jerry's outstanding work ethic, friendly smile and willingness to help others will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

His family would like to thank Androscoggin Home Health, the Maine Veterans Home and the staff of MaineGeneral Medical Center, (third floor) for all your kindness and loving care. A special thanks to his neighbor and dear friend, Sheila Robertson.

Jerry has requested no funeral service. A graveside ceremony, with military honors, will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Belgrade, in the spring.

Uncle Jerry, The times we spent just talking are the memories that I will cherish forever. I shall miss your stories of times gone by, the history you shared of years past. You will live forever in the hearts of all who loved you dearly. You once again will be with your beloved Marie.
