Ronald Davis Obituary

LITCHFIELD -- Ronald Owen "Bumpa" Davis, 74, of Davis Lane in Litchfield passed away Sunday, March 1, 2009, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.

He was born in Belfast on Jan. 26, 1935, a son of James and Gladys Mank Davis.

He attended Maine schools and received his General Educational Development certificate while in the Navy. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 and served his country proudly for 20 years, retiring at age of 36. He moved his family to Maine after his military service. He was employed at Associated Grocers of Maine for eight years. He left to start his own independent contracting business until his retirement.

He loved driving a motor home to Florida for winters and puttering in his shop. He served a three-year term as selectman for the town of Litchfield. He was a 36-year member of the Fleet Reserve Association and a member of Emerson Lane American Legion Post 132 in Richmond.

He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings Marilyn, Henry and James H. Davis Jr.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol Carter Davis of Litchfield; two daughters, Marilyn Parker and husband, Gary, of Litchfield and Robin Poulin and her husband, William, of Millington, Md.; two brothers, Jack Davis of Scarborough and Lawny Davis and his wife, Charlene, of Anson; sisters-in-law Mercia Pike and Merle Sylvia and her husband, William; three grandchildren, Ryan Parker and wife Emily, Angela Parker and Ronald Poulin; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Parker; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Martha.

Committal services with military honors will be held in the spring at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and doctors at the Maine Veterans Home for the loving care of Ron, and also to the doctors and nurses at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.

Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
