Matthew Doughty Obituary

Matthew Tyson Doughty, 36, of Round Pond, died unexpectedly in Damariscotta on Feb. 21.

He was born May 17, 1972, in Augusta. Matthew graduated from Lincoln Academy and later earned multiple commercial diving certificates from Ocean Corp. of Houston, Texas. Matthew followed his love of the ocean and diving as an underwater constructor and welder off the west coast of Africa and in the Gulf of Mexico.

He was the husband of Charlotte Peterson-Doughty. They were married in a formal ceremony at Pemaquid Point this past Oct. 18.

Matthew was loved dearly by his family. They have vivid fond memories of Matthew and his younger sister growing up in the Dresden area. They remember his strength of will and his love of travel and adventure.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; sister Sarah Doughty of Gorham; mother Nancy Bailey; father Sylvanus Doughty of Gorham; niece Allyssa Doughty of Gorham; and many cousins and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to Bristol Consolidated School's playground fund, c/o Bristol School, 2153 Bristol Road, Pemaquid, ME 04558.

A memorial service for Matthew was held at the Samoset Restaurant in New Harbor on March 1, 2009. Arrangements are entrusted to Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Damariscotta.
