Marion Hunt Obituary

WINTHROP -- Marion Evans Hunt, longtime resident of Warwick, R.I., and Barefoot Bay, Fla., and more recently of Winthrop, died at Winthrop Manor Nursing Home on March 2, 2009, at age 89, after a long illness.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1919, in Norwood, Mass., to the late Susan (Ford) Litchfield and George H. Litchfield.

A graduate of Woonsocket High School and Rhode Island College, she was a social worker for the state of Rhode Island and a substitute teacher in the Warwick secondary schools. She was a secretary and a member of the Warwick Community Guidance Clinic and a columnist for the Warwick Beacon newspaper. An active member of St. William's Church, she served on the parish council, edited the parish newsletter and taught CCD classes.

In Florida, Marion was a charter member of St. Luke's Women's Club and member of the Barefoot Bay Golf and Country Club, the New England Club and Friends of the South Brevard Library. A member of the Treasure Coast Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, she served as the genealogical records chairwoman and the secretary of the Indian River Chapter, Colonial Dames, XVII Century; and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 4425 and the Indian River Genealogy Association.

Marion was the widow of Dr. Edward G. Hunt, late assistant superintendent of Warwick schools and director of education, St. Joseph Hospital.

She will be missed by her children, Patricia Murphy, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Susan Babinski, of Scarsdale, N.Y., Edward Hunt, of Winthrop and Old Orchard Beach, Kevin Hunt, of Belgrade, and David Hunt, of Chatham, N.J.; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit today, Wednesday, March 4, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, Route 133, Winthrop, with the Rev. William Modlin, celebrant. Marion will be interred next to her husband at noon Friday at Highland Cemetery, 320 Winter St., Norwood, Mass.

I was so sorry to hear of Aunt Marian's passing. My condolences to all the family. I remember very fondly all the times we celebrated holidays together, alternating between our house and yours with Granny. While I haven't seen you all since the 2006 reunion, know my thoughts are with you.
