Julie Albert Obituary

SOUTH GARDINER -- Julie Elaine Pickens Albert, 52, of South Gardiner went to her rest on March 7, 2009, after a long, courageous battle with juvenile onset diabetes and kidney disease.

She was born in Gardiner on Aug. 12, 1956, a daughter of Frederick and Mildred Westerlund Pickens.

She loved to travel and walk at Reid State Park on the beach. Julie used to send nursing home patients anonymous cards to brighten up their day. She loved being with her family and friends.

She was predeceased by her father.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Jeffrey Allen Albert, of South Gardiner; her mother, Mildred Pickens, of South Gardiner; her two sisters, Anita Marenius and Janice Pickens; two brothers, Frederick and Jay Pickens; her special sisters-in-law, Susan Hilchey and her husband, Joel, and Susan Pickens; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and many close friends who will miss her dearly.

At Julie's request, there will be no public viewing. A service for family and friends will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church Farmingdale, with the pastor Robert Farley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Maine, Box 1134, Portland, ME 04104; American Diabetes Association, 163 Lancaster St., Portland, ME 04101; or P.A.L.S. Animal Shelter, Case Road, East Winthrop, ME 04343.

Arrangements are under the care of Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner.
