Charles Hinkley Obituary

DRESDEN -- Charles C. Hinkley, 76, passed away on March 7, 2009 at his home from complications of leukemia, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Richmond on Jan. 6, 1933, the son of Clinton W. and Evelyn B. (Smith) Hinkley.

Charlie attended Richmond schools and served honorably in the Army and the Air Force for 16 years. After his military service, he lived in Texas for several years before returning to Maine. Charles was an accomplished carpenter and home builder, among several other vocations.

He enjoyed all types of sports and was a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers. Charlie also enjoyed country and western music and loved to dance. He also loved spending time with family and friends.

Charles was predeceased by his parents; and daughter, Shauna, and her husband, Kurt Jacobson, formerly of Austin, Texas.

Charles is survived by his loving companion, Linda Merriam, of Dresden; two sons, Dr. Charles C. Hinkley and his wife, Suzannah, of New Braunfels, Texas, and Warner R. Hinkley and his wife, Ann, of Bath; two daughters, Sandie and Yolanda Hinkley, both of Texas; four grandsons, Brett, Kieantae, Kirk and Edward; three granddaughters, Hannah, Chelsea and Lindsey; one great-granddaughter, in Austin; two brothers, Gilman Hinkley and his wife, Maxine, of Richmond, and Sherwood Hinkley and his wife, Mary, of Apopka, Fla.; six sisters, Marilyn Pinkham, of West Gardiner, Emelene Fickett and her husband, Charles, of Farmingdale, Marita Miller, of Boothbay Harbor, Betty Roy, of North Adams, Mass., Cleo Chancellor and her husband, Norman, of Richmond, and Dolores Emmons, of Topsham. Also surviving are many nephews, nieces, and cousins; and special friends Paul and Donna Bergeron, and Aaron and Mary Garate.

The family expresses their gratitude to HealthReach Hospice, especially Katherine Bryant and Laurie Harris, for their loving care.

A graveside service will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Alexander Reed Road, Richmond, in the spring, per Charles' wishes.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles' name to hospice or the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the care of Kincer Funeral Home, 130 Pleasant St., Richmond, ME 04357.
