Arlene Frost Obituary

WATERVILLE -- Arlene C. Frost, born Jan. 25, 1925, loving wife of Harold D. Frost for 66 years, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, in the caring company of her husband and daughter at MaineGeneral Rehab-ilitation and Nursing Care at Glenridge in Augusta.

She was the mother of six children: Anne Elizabeth Frost Rehner, wife of Lew Rehner, Richard A. Frost, husband of Mary Anne Frost, Judith Frost Gillis, wife of Alan C. Gillis, Barbara Frost, partner of Cathy Ogle, Marjorie L. Frost, partner of Rita Woods, and Susan Frost, wife of Donald Morin, as well as a grandmother to 11 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Arlene graduated from Colburn Classical Institute in Waterville and a library science program at the University of Rhode Island. She spent many years as a librarian in Providence, R.I., and Portsmouth, N.H.

Mom's enthusiasm for life was a strong influence on her family, although she did rather reluctantly climb Mount Katahdin. Arlene was a member of Pleasant Street United Methodist Church in Waterville, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, and a worthy matron of Fadette Chapter 166 of the Order of Eastern Star in York. Arlene and her husband ran Capn Frost's Bed and Breakfast in Thomaston for many years. They enjoyed trips to the United Kingdom, and another favorite destination was Cape Cod. Arlene was an avid antiques collector and also enjoyed reading, square-dancing and quilting.

Services will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at the Pleasant Street United Methodist Church in Waterville, with the Rev. Arlene Tully officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HealthReach Hospice, Comfort Fund, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903.
