Marsha Taber Obituary

FAIRFIELD -- Marsha Taber went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 2, 2009. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Marsha was born at California Settlement, New Brunswick, on July 7, 1916, the daughter of John and Maria (Hamilton) Doody. The family moved to Coffin's Corner in Washburn in 1929. On Oct. 22, 1933, she married Wallace A. Taber and they shared 63 great years. She was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed reading biographies, crocheting and babysitting the grandkids and great-grandkids.

Marsha was a member of the Fairfield Nazarene Church from 1942 to 1952, and then became a member of the Calvary Church of God in Oakland where she taught Sunday school. Her calling in life was to assist the older ladies of the church who could not drive. She faithfully drove them to church and out for Sunday dinner. Most recently, Marsha attended Riverside Assembly in Fairfield. She was always praying for her family and friends, and was always faithful to her Lord.

Marsha is survived by her daughter, Elaine Washburn, with whom she has been living since the death of her husband in January of 1997; one brother, Herman Doody of Washburn; a sister, Louise Peterson of Monticello; and four grandchildren, Kathy Day and her husband, Larry, of Fairfield, Lori Libby of Scarborough, Scott Washburn and his wife, Gail, of Clinton, and John Washburn and his wife, Kimberly, of Memphis, Tenn. She is also survived by her 10 great-grandchildren, Melissa Warren, Emily Day, Michael Day, Eric Libby, Nicole Axelsen, Joshua Washburn, Lacey Washburn, Andrew Washburn, Austin Washburn, and Adam Washburn; as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Zo' Warren and Jacob Libby; along with many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, at Lawry Brothers Funeral Home, 107 Main St., Fairfield. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Riverside Assembly Church in Fairfield. Spring burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Riverside Assembly Building Fund, 32 Water St., Fairfield, ME 04937, or the Pine Tree Society, P.O. Box 518, Bath, ME 04530.

Elaine and family,
How truly blessed my mother and I were to be one of those people that your mom would come and pick up for church. She was such a blessing to all who knew her. I am so glad that we had that visit together when I was home 6 years ago. I shall always remember her as one of those great Christian women who had a big influence on my life. I can still remember her telling the story of how she would always wear those 3 inch heals all the time. May God be with you during your loss and know that there is comfort in knowing she is with the other great Christian women who left us. Her loss brought a tear of joy as when our time comes I am sure she will be one of the ones that will come pick us up in some beautiful vehicle provided by Her Keeper. God Bless you all.

My Grandmother, Rowena Hamilton Henderson, of Fort Fairfield fondly remembers her school days with Marsha and all the other children of California Settlement. She was so sorry to hear about Marsha's passing after the funeral; although wishes to send her deepest sympathy to her family.
