Elmer Eaton Obituary

FARMINGTON -- Elmer R. Eaton Sr., 85, of Farmington joined his loving wife early Sunday morning, March 1, 2009. He passed at Edgewood Manor in Farmington.

Elmer was born Oct. 1, 1923, in North Reading, Mass., the son of James F. and Luella V. (Orben) Eaton. He attended school in Massachusetts and Maine, going to trade school in Dexter before joining the Navy in 1942. He married Lorraine Ouellette on March 10, 1946. She passed in 1990. Elmer worked as a painter, truck driver, machinist at Knowlton-McLeary and Forsters Manufacturing, and finished his career as a warehouse manager. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering, gardening, the Red Sox, and spending time with his family, which extended into the community. He was a member of the Fairbanks Union Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie Ladd and her husband, Alfloyd, Patricia Ladd and her partner, Arthur Child Jr., and Sally White and her husband, Chris, all of Farmington; four sons, Elmer R. "Ricky" Eaton Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Industry, Kenneth Eaton and his wife, Brenda, of Florida, Robert Eaton and his wife, Brinda, of Farmington, and Royce Eaton and his wife, Joanna, of Cherryfield; 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a sister Melissa Knowles.

Elmer was predeceased by his wife; three brothers, Robert, James, and Arthur; a sister, Frances; and a second mother, Melissa Eaton.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Adams-McFarlane Funeral & Cremation Services, 108 Court St., Farmington. A memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, March 6, at Fairbanks Union Church. Interment will be in the spring at the Gay Cemetery in Fairbanks. Donations may be made in Elmer's memory to the Fairbanks Union Church, Strong Road, Farmington, ME 04938.
