Richard Taylor Obituary

VENICE, Fla. -- Richard "Gup" Taylor, 82, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2009, at Tidewell Hospice in Port Charlotte, after a brief illness.

He was born in Waterville, Maine, on May 22, 1926, son of Errol Taylor Sr. and Katherine (Drum-mond) Taylor.

Gup loved fishing and spending endless hours at Dead Stream Pond, hunting in Brighton, Maine, with the "BBB" and boating with his family and friends. He was always up and ready for another game of cribbage, and enjoyed tinkering his "Taylor Fix" in his workshops in both Winslow, Maine, and Venice.

Gup was predeceased by two sons, Steven in 1997 and David in 1968; as well as two brothers, Errol and Gardy.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; a son, Bill (Cathy); daughter Jan; daughter-in-law Lumina; and stepdaughters Debra, Tina (David), Carol (Stan), and Brenda (Jon).

Gup is also survived by nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all.

At his request there will be no service at this time.

A celebration of his life will take place in Maine at a time to be determined by his family.

Mom, Jan, Bill, my sisters, and all others that touched Gup's life,

I wanted to share with you how valuable Gup was in my life. His warmth, compassion, and love of life and those around him was as obvious and natural as a trout in Dead Stream. Gup will forever remain in my heart and I am blessed that I had the opportunity to live my life in his presence. I know his memory lives on in each one of us as we all shared special moments that touch us in so many ways. He was an amazing man and his spirit will live on much longer than his physical life on earth.

I am so sorry to hear of Gup's passing. We worked together at Weyerhaeuser for years and always had fun and success. With Gup there was a surprise around every corner and that what made him such a gem.

I remember Gup Taylor had a column in the now defunct "Somerset Gazette" when it first came out. I knew his son, Steve, whose wife, Lumina, worked at Embden Elementary School while I was a student there.
