Dennis Palmer Obituary

Dennis T. Palmer, 59 USAF Veteran & Scarborough Public Works Employee BUXTON -- Dennis T. Palmer, 59, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer with his family at his side at his residence on Feb. 27, 2009. He was born in Portland on Dec. 10, 1949, the son of Merton 'Bud' and Ellen (Harmon) Palmer. He graduated from Bonny Eagle High School in 1967 and went on to proudly serve his country during the Vietnam conflict in the United tates Air Force from 1967 - 1971. After his discharge from the service, he worked for several companies including Arnold Machining Co. working as a mechanic until the early 1980s. He went on to further serve his country by enlisting in the Air National Guard. Since his retirement from the Air National Guard, Dennis has worked for Scarborough Public Works as a truck driver. He was a member of Tory Hill Congregational Church, Buxton Masonic Lodge #115 AF&AM, Gold Prospecting of America, the American Legion, Bar Mills Fire Dept., and the Maine Trappers Assoc. Dennis enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, flying, reloading and most outdoor activities. He is predeceased by his mother Ellen Palmer. Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Karen (Sawyer) Palmer, who he married on Sept. 12, 1971; sons, Derek Palmer and his wife Dawn of Hollis, Michael Palmer of Biddeford and Christopher Palmer of Buxton; grandchildren, Emily and Lindsey Palmer; his father, Merton 'Bud' Palmer of Buxton; brother-in-law, Norman Sawyer of Naples, sisters-in-law, Kristine Verrill and her husband David of Hiram, and Norma Sawyer of Naples; several nieces and nephews; several cousins; his dog, Cassie; and sisters, Donna Beal of Buxton and Darlene Allen of Florida. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, located at the corners of Rts. 202 and 4A (13 Portland Rd.) in Buxton (Bar Mills). At 5:45 p.m., during the visitation, a Masonic memorial service will be held followed by a funeral service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home with USAF honors. The Rev. Dear karen, Derek, Michael, and Chris. Our heart felt thoughts go out to you at this time. I use to see Dennis over to Scarborough Public Works and talk to him often. I also remember the Boys as well as Darlene back in base ball. my wife Dianna and I have both been dealing with Cancer for three years know. As well as my self having Heart a attack.
