My sympathy to all who were close to Harry. He was a great man. Harry was very impressive to me when I was finishing college and visiting the sessions of the legislative Special Select Committee on Public Lands which he chaired. I switched parties to support his primary run for Governor. He remains an inspiration for his dedication to a healthy natural environment right through to his fight against Plum Creek's massive developement in the Maine Woods. What a difference he has made in the lives of so many people.

I knew him as Uncle Sonny. My father, Harry Richardson, was his first cousin. I remember our families getting together at his farm in Cumberland in the 1960's. He would call my mother frequently after my dad died. He was a very sweet man.

Harry was a wonderful man and will truly be missed. The comfort we feel is knowing he is with his soul mate, Miss Cate. Our sympathies go out to Harry's family. May he rest in peace and, as always, Semper Fi !!

I lived in Yarmouth and Harry Richardson once picked me up while I was hitchhiking. We talked about his experience as a Marine officer. I later joined the same PLC program. I went to law school and when I graduated in 1971 my first job was to work with Harry, Shep Lee and others to save the income tax. Harry deserves a "Profiles in Courage" award. What a guy...what an example...he will be so missed!

Harry was one of the most extraordinary persons I have ever met. I first met him while I served as a legislative intern. His uncommon values of honor, empathy, courage, integrity, and public service will always be remembered. While our hearts go out to the Richardson family for his loss, we should take comfort in his enduring gifts to the people of Maine.

His greatest times were when I was in
junior high (I'm 55) but he was a
mover and a shaker 40 years ago.
RIP.
