Victor Veazie Obituary

Victor Veazie, 79 SPRINGFIELD, Va. -- Victor Veazie, 79, died March 3, 2009, at Greenspring Residence, Springfield, Va. He was born in Portland, on Nov. 11, 1929, to the Rev. William D. Veazie (Col. U.S. Army) and Frances R. Veazie. He attended Portland schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1951. He attended the Boston Museum School in Boston, Mass., and graduated with a BFA from Boston University in 1957. He married Jean Lamkin in 1961, and the made their home in Springfield, Va. Victor worked for the Department of the Navy at the Pentagon for 40 years, becoming the head of Navy graphics, and accumulating many awards and commendations during his career. He was active in DeMolay fraternal organizations in both Portland and Washington, D.C. He was a Master Mason at Deering Lodge #183 in Portland, and #320 Scottish Rite and Shrine in D.C. He was a member of the National Society of Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and held membership in the Maine Society of SAR. He was predeceased by his parents; as well as his brothers, William D. Veazie Jr. and Paul C. Veazie, both from Maine, and sister Alice Cox. He is survived by his wife Jean and sons Craig D. Veazie (Peggy) of Springfield, Va., and CAPT. Todd G. Veazie (Vanessa) of Coronado, Calif. and Virginia. Since retiring from the government, Victor and Jean have spent summers at their Sebago Lake home. Despite living in Virginia for 47 years, they always thought of themselves as 'Mainiacs.' A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. March 6, 2009, at Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave., Portland. Arrangements are under the care of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.
