Angus Scrimm, a character actor best known for playing the frightening “Tall Man” in the Phantasm horror films, has died at the age of 89.

He had many other appearances in horror movies including Witches Brew and Scream Bloody Murder. However, he became a horror movie icon for his terrifying character in Phantasm and its three sequels. Scrimm recently finished playing “Tall Man” for a fifth Phantasm movie that is scheduled to be released later this year.

Fans will also soon be able to see Scrimm in a restored version of the original Phantasm. That version is being overseen by Star Wars director, and Phantasm fan, J.J. Abrams.

Scrimm also had a recurring role as an SD-6 agent on the television series Alias.
