Heartfelt tributes were shared in Ireland and around the world when six Irish students were killed and others injured after an apartment balcony collapsed in Berkeley, California, in June 2015.

The six who died were Eimear Walsh (21), a medicine student at UC Davis; Olivia Burke (21) from Foxrock, Dublin, a student of Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT); Olivia's cousin Ashley Donohoe (22), a dual Irish-U.S. citizen from California studying at Sonoma State University; Niccolai Schuster (21) from Terenure, Dublin, who studied at UC Davis; Lorcán Miller (21), a student studying medicine at UC Davis; and Eoghan Culligan (21) from Rathfarnham, who was studying at Dublin Institute of Technology.
One of the survivors, Clodagh Cogley, who has a long road to recovery after suffering life-threatening injuries, posted a moving message on Facebook: "The thing I'm taking from this tragedy is that life is short and I intend to honour those who died by living the happiest and most fulfilling life possible. Enjoy a good dance and the feeling of grass beneath your feet like it's the last time because in this crazy world you never know when it might be."
