Lifelong Alaska resident William Carlyle Whipple, 73, passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 11, 2009, at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage with his family at his side.
William was born on
Dec. 4, 1935, to Charles and Erma Whipple in Ketchikan. After graduation from Kayhi High School, he met and married Joyce Anne Newton on June 7, 1958, in Ketchikan.
He loved the outdoors and being around nature on his farm in the Eielson Farm Project area. He loved to dance, fish, farm, ride four-wheelers and spend time with his family.
William worked as a commercial fisherman, construction worker, Standard Oil Service Station owner and for the last 17 years, as a foreman for the city of Fairbanks Public Works Department.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joyce; daughters, Linda Matthys, Robin Bennett and Camille Baker; and numerous other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in William's name be made to The Fairbanks Memorial Hospital Foundation, The Harry and Sally Porter Heart Center, P.O. Box 71396, Fairbanks, AK 99707.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at the Fairbanks Funeral Home and Crematory, 3704 Erickson Ave. in Fairbanks.
