Cy Rawls Obituary

Cy Rawls, age 33, died Friday, October 3, 2008, at Duke Medical Center.
Born in Durham on February 27, 1975, Cy was a 1993 graduate of Broughton High School in Raleigh. He earned his Communications Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, where he graduated in 1997.
Cy was a devoted Tarheels fan who will be remembered for his wonderful smile, his generous nature and kind heart. His love of music was only transcended by his unique ability to befriend many, many people during his brief life.
Cy is survived by his loving parents, Susan and Frank Rawls of Raleigh; his grandmother, Ruby S. Ferrell of Raleigh; and his aunt, Elaine Rawls of Cape Carteret.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John H. Ferrell; and his paternal grandparents, Cyrus F. and Mildred P. Rawls.
The graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2008 at Jacksonville City Cemetery with the Rev. David Goehring presiding.
Friends may visit from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St., Durham.
Flowers are acceptable or contributions, in Cy's memory, may be made to the Cy Rawls Benevolent Fund (contact any State Employees Credit Union location) or to a charity of one's choice.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the entire staff at the Robert Preston Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke for their wonderful care; and to Cy's numerous friends who have provided unwavering support during his illness. The family shall forever be grateful for your expressions of kindness and love.

Cy and I traveled all over doing medical research studies for college money.

Cy was the coolest guy In the world. He knew his rock bands and knew pro wrestling better than anyone.

I love you, brother. You are remembered, fondly, always.

The funeral service today was a wonderful tribute to Cy! It was so obvious how very much he was loved and how many friends he had! It was obvious that you were experiencing inner strength that only comes from our Lord. Our prayers will continue to be with you as you begin coping with your great loss! You are very special to me!

I did not know your son,but felt I should say something for on this day my husband died 19 years ago of a brain tumor. I know from experience nothing anyone says makes it better, I think the only thing that got me through it was knowing the man I loved was beside God and was no longer suffering. May God carry you through this hard time.

I met Cy through my son, Ivan Howard. Later on Cy came to work at the company I was working at in Cary, NC. Cy was always so quiet and had a sheepish grin. He was such a nice person and I always had to get a hug when I saw him at one of the clubs where Ivan was playing.
He certainly will be missed.

GOD Bless you "CY".
