John Apel Obituary
John is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Marlene Johannemann Apel, and his five children, John T. Apel Jr. and his wife, Sonia, of Toms River, Chris Apel and his wife, Lorrie, of Ringwood, Peggy Stewart and her husband, Neil Keegstra, of Vernon, David Apel and his partner, Caroline Sabas, of New York City, Susan Milner and her husband, Pat, of Vernon; and his daughter-in-law Debra Matthews of Mountain Lakes. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Church, Vernon. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice Center, 99 Sparta Ave., Newton, NJ 07860 would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Marlene and family,
I was very sad to hear about John's passing. The last time I saw him he looked very well to me, and I held this as a hopeful sign. It is hard to believe I have known all of you for over 35 years, and it has always been a pleasure for me to see all of you at the family gatherings. I will certainly miss him very much, his kind and gentle nature. He was a very nice man, and a wonderful husband and father...just a great human being. I will especially miss hearing him tell his stories at the family and holiday gatherings. It is so hard to believe he is gone. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I spoke with John and asked him to convey my sincerest condolences to all of you. I do hope you see this message. If there is anything I can do for any of you, please do not hesitate to contact me, via John.
